A memory chip that defies temperatures up to 200oC; a security system that identifies faces and “digital finger printing” were proclaimed the winners of the “Information Society Technology Grand Prizes 2006”. The award ceremony took place in Vienna on 22 March.

Seventeen more prizes, worth €5,000.00 each, were awarded to pioneering technologies from 12 countries. The Spanish competitor, “Next Limit”, won two prizes for respective projects.

From a total of 213 competitors from 28 different European countries, the European Commission short-listed 20 projects.
