During 2006, significant acceleration has been observed in the absorption of the resources of the 3rd Community Support Framework (CSF) based on the available progress data as of 30.12.2006, in line with the announcement of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.

The works of the 2-day annual Greek ICT Forum, that was recently held in the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens were successfully completed.

Today, at 11.00 hours in the morning the Prime Minister Mr. Karamanlis will announce the commencement of works of the first World Internet Governance Forum which is held in Athens. The key subject of the Forum, which is under the auspices of U.N.O., is: “Internet Governance for Development”.

The portal www.in.gr is the most popular Greek website in Internet. The WebID survey by Focus-Bari shows that more than 300,000 Greeks daily visit the in.gr portal, according to the survey’s data for the second quarter of 2006.

The recent visit of the special consultant of the United Nations Secretary General, Ntin Dezai, in Greece and his meeting with the Minister of Transports & Communications, Michalis Liappis, signaled the entrance in the final stage of preparations of the 1st World Internet Governance Forum to be held in Athens from 30th October to 2nd November.

Conclusions of a recent research carried out by the Ιnstitute for Communication regarding the development of the Internet in Greece.

According to the statement made by the deputy minister of National Economy and Finance, Christos Folias – during his speech in the 2nd business forum (within the framework of the 71st International Fair of Thessaloniki) – the government’s goal in the next years is the “digital leap” and the increase of the broadband Internet access rate up to 7% until 2008.

On Tuesday, September 12th the Minister of Transports and Communications, Mr. Michalis Liapis discussed issues related to the preparation of the “1st World Forum on Internet Governance” to be held in Athens from 30 October to 2 November 2006 with the special advisor of the United Nations Secretary General and Secretary of WSIS (World Summit on Information Society), Mr. Nitin Desai.

New technologies offer new possibilities and solutions which can waive any restrictions as to the access of people with disabilities to communication, employment, health, education, accessibility and every day life in general…

An important international conference was recently held in Heraclion, Crete on the “Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the promotion of Local Government and development”, with high participation on behalf of the local government sector.
