The implementation of “SIZEFXIS” is about to begin

During the meeting that took place on the 6th of September 2004, the Intraparty Committee approved the tender for subproject 1 of the National Network of Public Administration - Sizefxis. The objective of the approved subproject is to provide the Ministries, General Secretariats, Managing Authorities and Recruitment Offices, of the regions, with a network of distribution and access.
The Intraparty Committee’s decision gave the green light for the immediate implementation of Sizefxis, which will provide the Public Institutions with high quality and high added value telecommunication and telematic services. It will provide services to approximately 1800 public sector institutions around Greece. Sizefxis is the first large scale project for the provision of bandwidth telecommunication services in Greece and will considerably improve the performance of the Public Institutions.
The budget of the Project is 74.32M€, taxes included. It is expected that after the implementation of the project, and only from the telephony service, the Public Administration will save around 65,7M€ (the cost of the investment also included). There is margin for even greater cost reduction if we take into account the endless new opportunities offered by Sizefxis.
The project must be completed within one (1) year from the date the contractors’ undertook the legal obligations. The services to the Public Administration Institutions will be provided for a three-year period.
The Ministerial Council’s decision to form the Committee for strategy planning and IT development, in June 2004, was a momentous step towards the immediate operation of the National Network of Public Administration. The Committee is composed of the Special Secretary for the Information Society, of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, prof.V.Asimakopoulos (coordinator), the Secretary General for Public Administration and Electronic Governance of the Ministry of Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization, M.V.Andronopoulos, the Secretary General for the Information Systems of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, M.D.Anagnostopoulos, the Secretary for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Development, M.I.Tsoukalas and the President of the limited liability company “Information Society Ltd”, M.K.Doukas. From the very first meeting, the IT Committee set as the country’s priority, the immediate implementation of the project, which had been delayed for more than 12 months.

In the plans of the Special Secretariat for the Information Society and of the Special Secretary for the IS, prof.V.Asimakopoulos, is the further expansion of the project to more than 800 institutions of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and of the Municipal Local Authorities, in order to create a network of more than 2.600 points around Greece. Moreover, based on the strategy of the Operation Program for the IS and in particular on Axis 4, plans for new infrastructure around the country are being made. The infrastructure will assure the optimal use of the project in the future.
