The Greek ICT Forum’s works were successfully completed

The works of the 2-day annual Greek ICT Forum, that was recently held in the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens were successfully completed.

The forum was organized under the auspices of the ministries of Internal Affairs, Public Administration and Decentralization, of National Economy and Finance, of Developement and under the auspices of the General Secretariats implementing IT and digital communications projects, of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission, the Observatory for the Information Society, the Greek Computer Society, Greek Business Administration Society (ΕΕDΕ), and the Hellenic-Finish Chamber of Connerce.

In the 2-day forum the following companies participated as sponsors: Altec, Fujitsu Siemens, Intracom IT Services, ProfileSingular Logic and Unisystems.

In addition, the following companies participated as supporters: Altec Telecoms, Atcom, Bull, Cisco Systems, Cosmote, EMC2, Ericsson, FIT, Forthnet, IBM, Info Quest Microland, Microsoft, OTE Academy, OTEnet, SAPSUN and Uninortel.

More than 1500 participants from all over Greece attended the Forum; they had the opportunity of getting informed from governmental observers, senior IT and digital communications business executives, academicians, heads of research foundations, senior executives of transportation organizations and other parties involved in the development of Information and Communications Technologies in Greece, on the development plans of Digital Infrastructures and Services currently implemented in our country.

Among the key speakers of the Forum, the Chairman of the Digital Strategy Committee, Mr. Αssimakopoulos was, as well as the Internal Affairs, Public Administration and Electronic Governance Secretary General – Mr. Andronopoulos, the Research & Technology Secretary General – Mr. Tsoukalas, the IT Systems Secretary General, the Vice-President of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission – Mr. Koulouris, as well as the President of the  "Information Society S.A." – Mr. Doukas.

The contribution of the annual Greek ICT Forum to the development of more efficient communication channels between the interested parties, in which the private, public, research, scientific, executive and other sectors are found, was officially recognized by the Chairman of the Digital Strategy Commitee, professor Vassilis Assimakopoulos. During the Forum, he announced that the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, through the Special Secretariat of Digital Planning, places the Greek ICT Forum under its institutional auspices on a regular basis and that the Ministry would utilize the Forum in many ways in the planning and implementation of Actions encompassed in the 3rd and 4th Community Support Framework.

One of the top moments of the 8th Greek ICΤ Forum was the announcement of the Electronic Crime Prosecution Chief, Police Officer A, Mr. Manolis Sfakianakis as the ICT Manager of the Year 2006 and the award of a memorial tablet from the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Giorgos Alogoskoufis. The rewarding of the companies IBM, Fujitsu Siemens, e-Shop and In Access Networks for their successful business progress in the 2001-2005 period was also interesting.

During these two days, the participants had the opportunity of attending very interesting speeches and discussions whose subject matters were as follows: the development of IT Centres in the Public & Private Sector, the introduction of Digital Technologies in the Municipalities and Prefectures, the cooperation between Enterprises and Research Foundations, the development of Smart Transports in our country, the utilization of funds and projects of the Operational Programme “Information Society” in the modernization of Enterprises, the implementation of digital services projects in the Public sector and the growth prospect of the Greek IT and Digital Communications Market.

Soon, a website will operate (www.greekictforum.gr) where the interested parties can find apart from details for all the Forums that have been organized until now, news on the IT and digital communications market, views, financial figures from enterprises, trends and financial sizes of the market, studies, etc.

The new website will form a point of reference for the development of an effective and fertile dialogue for the development of information technology and digital communications in out country.
