Internet survey for Greece

The portal www.in.gr is the most popular Greek website in Internet. The WebID survey by Focus-Bari shows that more than 300,000 Greeks daily visit the in.gr portal, according to the survey’s data for the second quarter of 2006.
At the same time, its gap from other Greek websites becomes bigger – a fact illustrating the general delay in the development of content and services in the Greek language. This is reflected in the increasing popularity of big foreign websites, i.e. Yahoo and Google, which are used by the Greeks not only for information search in the Internet but also for acquiring electronic mail address and other services that are available in the Greek market.
The foreign activity in the electronic commerce seems increasing despite of the general delay that the markets in Greece and Internet transactions show. This means that the “crucial mass” of Internet users is being formed and the Greek market becomes more interesting.
A large portion of the packages transported on a daily basis by the Hellenic Post and courier companies comes from purchases of books, DVDs and various electronic devices from abroad although this relates only to a small part of Greek Internet users. According to the latest surveys, only 20% of Greek users have purchased a product or service from an e-shop even only once at least. Some 35% have used the Internet to get information on a product which was then purchased from a conventional store.
