Conference on Internet at Pantion University
«The effect of the Internet to the media in Europe» has been the subject of the conference organized by the Faculty of Communication, Media and Culture of Pantion University, the European network of academics and researchers and the European Cultural Center of Delphi, on April 26 to 28 at Delphi.
The conference considered the changes in the media sector, prospects offered as well as problems arisen from the dimensions that the Internet has acquired.
In total, 72 reports have been presented whereas more than 120 participants from 22 European countries have represented 53 universities. The event has taken place with the support of the Association of Informatics Businesses of Greece (AIBG).
The Minister of State Mr. Theodoros Rousopoulos has welcomed the operations and the conference was concluded with the round table discussion on Greek media in the Cyberspace.
Among the issues discussed are:
- The new journalistic practices in the digital era
- The (unclear) limits between journalism and blogs
- Factors limiting the development of online journalism
- Political communication in the new media – The case of 2004 national elections in Greece
- Digital television and the Internet
- The attitude of journalists before new media and changes brought to their profession
- The future of newspapers in the Internet era
- Internet and digital music
- Business models in the Cyberspace
- Diffusion of electronic magazines
- Impact of the Internet to the policies of the EU on media.
As it appeared during the conference works, Media businesses throughout Europe try to adjust to the new, network environment, without having yet decided upon final solutions. Electronic newspapers or digital television proceed at a less fast pace than initially foreseen.
However, it is clear that in the years to come, developments shall accelerate. In certain countries the market has already developed more and it is now rather ready to receive the changes to come in the area of media.
