Even though their names are similar we must not confuse the Special Management Service of the Operational Programme “Information Society” (SMS of OPIS) with the “Information Society S.A.” (IS S.A.).

There are differences in their role within the Operational Programme “Information Society” (OPIS). The SMS of OPIS is responsible for the management of the OPIS while the IS S.A. supports (without receiving any remuneration) the bodies (Ultimate Beneficiaries) that implement projects funded by the OPIS; at the same time, it implements projects on behalf of other bodies (i.e. it is the Ultimate Beneficiary of OPIS).

As far as their legal form is concerned, the SMS of OPIS is subject to the Special Secretariat for Digital Planning of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), in other words it is a MEF’s Service. IS S.A. is a Private Law Body Corporate and specifically a societe anonyme whose sole shareholder is the Greek State and supervised by the ministry of Internal Affairs, Public Administration and Decentralization (MIAPAD).
