The 1st World Forum on Internet Governance is to be held in Athens

On Tuesday, September 12th the Minister of Transports and Communications, Mr. Michalis Liapis discussed issues related to the preparation of the “1st World Forum on Internet Governance” to be held in Athens from 30 October to 2 November 2006 with the special advisor of the United Nations Secretary General and Secretary of WSIS (World Summit on Information Society), Mr. Nitin Desai.
The aim of the Forum, in which it is estimated that more than 500 people will participate is to reduce the digital gap and to provide citizens with the possibility of using new technologies and access the Information society.
In his statements, Mr. Liapis expressed his satisfaction that Greece is organizing the 1st World Forum on Internet with the full support of the Organization of United Nations; he also noted that in our days internet has radically changed the knowledge filed and forms a useful tool for the support and promotion of the freedom of knowledge as well as the development of a dialogue between agencies so as the digital gap is minimized.
