Introduction


This section relates to the comparison of IS programmes between Greece and the other two countries of Objective / Goal 1 of the European South, i.e. Portugal and Spain.


 


These two countries despite their differences with Greece are the most similar cases to Greece with respect to their position in the IS field and the intervention policies implemented through the Structural Funds for the 2000 – 2006 period.

The 2000-2006 Operational Programme “Information Society” of Portugal comprises 3 Axes and the Technical Assistance and includes 9 measures with a total budget of 625.2 m€.

In the case of Spain, the Information Society field is integrated in the Operational Programme “Knowledge Society” as the 7th Sub-programme, with a total budget of 969.3 m€. The programme includes 6 measures and Technical Assistance.

The comparative position of the three countries, Greece, Spain and Portugal, the cases of which were presented in the previous chapters, arises from the qualitative comparison of their operational programmes and policies they express in combination with the quantitative comparison of the programmes on the basis of the three categorizations in intervention fields –policy objectives.
