With funding from the O.P. Information Society, more than 140 projects for the documentation, utilization and promotion of our cultural reserve are completed. It is estimated that the majority of these project will fully operate in the first half of 2007 proving the Greek citizens (and not only Greek since access to collections will be effected through the Internet) with the opportunity of getting to know and appreciate the rich cultural reserve of the country.
The training of more than 17,600 elected representatives of the Local Self Government in the new Information & Communication Technologies will promote in the best manner the perspectives that information technology and the Internet offer to the Region.
Last week, the works of the 2-day conference that was organized by the Special Managing Service of OPIS under the title “Inspection Methodologies and Project Monitoring Practices” were successfully completed at Divani Palace Acropolis hotel.
On Monday, July 24 2006, the minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. George Alogoskoufis and the minister of Transports and Communications signed a joint ministerial decision regarding the finance of enterprises for the development of broadband Internet access in the Greek Regions of a total budget of € 210 million.
The Secretary Special for the Information Society, Prof. Vassilis Assimakopoulos announced the financing of the new action/ operation on transports and transportations in Attica, whose objective is to inform citizens at real time about the transport means, the traffic conditions, as well as to provide suggestions for routes and timetables so as citizens are served better during their transports.
On Thursday, July 13th 2006 the Special Managing Service of the Operational Programme “Information Society” and the Institute of Social Protection and Solidarity of the Ministry of Health organized a one-day conference for the information and awareness of the public on the following subject-matter: “Television for all – Decoders for People with Disabilities”.

Assimakopoulos, on Wednesday July 12th 2006 the agreement on the “e-learning system for the agencies of the Community Support Framework” was signed by the BoD Chairman of MOD S.A., Mr. D. Kardomateas and the representative of the contractor joint venture, Mr. N. Tsambourakis.

The Special Secretariat for the IS informs that the “Innovation 2006” Contest by OTEnet to be implemented under the auspices of the Special Secretariat forms an invitation for young people over 18 years old to promote their ideas on the utilization of new technologies.
From now on, the Kaikmatsalan mountain will be digitally protected with the use of new technologies. Additionally, all visitors (skiers, climbers, travelers, etc.) will be able of being directly informed through the Internet on the existing meteorological conditions, the areas entailing potential risks and the tourism itineraries of this very beautiful area.
